Thomas Marcolini, Cornélio Procópio, 1996.

I was born in 1990 in Londrina, Paraná, and spent a large part of my childhood in a small town called Cornélio Procópio. The son of Christian parents, I studied at a Catholic school until high school.

1990-2007.

In my final year of high school, I moved to Londrina to begin preparatory studies to pursue my dream of studying medicine. I was influenced by two friends who were sons of doctors and who remain my friends and colleagues today. After a year of preparatory courses, with the great support of my parents, I had the pleasure of being accepted into the university in Blumenau, Santa Catarina.

I am proud to have studied medicine at the Regional University Foundation of Blumenau (FURB). The city has a strong German culture, is extremely clean and organized. It has several excellent hospitals with a strong dedication to the teaching and learning of its students.

Neurosurgery Internship, Blumenau, 2015

I completed my internship (the last two years of medical school) in neurosurgery. In the very first week, I was absolutely certain that this was what I would do with my life. Dealing with lives, moments of crisis, and challenges are what fascinate me and give meaning to my work.

Após ter certeza da neurocirurgia estudei como nunca para passar na prova de residência. Fui aprovado em 5 hospitais, visitei todos os serviços pessoalmente e escolhi o Hospital Evangélico de Curitiba para ser minha escola na especialidade. Com um volume cirúrgico grande e ótimos professores tenho orgulho da minha formação. Tanto é que ao terminar minha residência recebi o convite para permanecer na equipe de neurocirurgia do hospital, tendo como colegas aqueles mestres que foram meus professores. Além do Hospital Mackenzie atuo em Curitiba em hospitais como Nossa Senhora das Graças, Hospital Pilar, Hospital Sugisawa e Santa Cruz.

Passionate about microsurgery, I have a laboratory microscope at home, which I acquired in my second year of residency, and I continue to hone my skills with it to this day. Well-performed microsurgery leads to satisfactory results and makes the neurosurgeon happy. I carry my surgical technique and love for laboratory training with me always.

I completed several courses/internships in hospitals that fascinated me. One of them was the time I spent in the anatomy lab at Hospital Beneficência Portuguesa, SP. I learned a lot about microsurgery and made good friends.

In my final year of residency, I had the opportunity to complete my Fellowship in Peripheral Nerve and Brachial Plexus Surgery at the "José de San Martín" Hospital de Clínicas. I worked alongside the master Dr. Mariano Sokolovsky – Head of the World Chair of Peripheral Nerve Surgery and an incredible human being. The service I observed is enormous, channeling patients from all over the country into the hands of four excellent neurosurgeons dedicated exclusively to the specialty of peripheral nerves. The number of people who passed through that hospital was unimaginable and inspired me to return to Curitiba and build something similar.
